5. Toxicoinformatics

Work is focusing on: 

  1. Providing support in experimental design and statistics. Experimental design and statistics dedicated for toxicogenomics, are obvious issues within NTC’s research program. Implementation of class prediction models in toxicogenomics is essential for all research lines. Further, novel algorithms and software tools will be developed to discriminate toxicants from non-toxicants based on in vitro toxicogenomics data. In addition, whole literature and pathway database derived meta-analysis information will be used to make better informed choices on the most predictive gene sets, once several key genes have been identified and verified.
  2. Development of toxicoinformatics interpretation tools including pathway mapping to allow for the toxicologically-driven interpretation of genomics data Next to cluster analysis of toxicogenomics data, pathway analysis is a second approach for data analysis approach, in which genomic changes are directly visualized within their biological mechanistic context. To accomplish this, biological information on interconnections between genes is incorporated a priori by experts into software tools. With selected/mentioned model compounds it is the ambition to establish whether different or the same pathways of relevance with respect to each toxicity are perturbed
